UVA Instruments is a small shop, run by two people: Alejandro Lagos and Anastasia Zarubina
Alex has been making guitars for his friends and himself for 27 years, but never turned it into a business venture. In October 2003, he met Anastasia. Having no knowledge or experience of making guitars, she, however, influenced Alejandro's outlook on the whole industry and encouraged him to become a professional luthier. After much deliberation, they joined their intellectual and creative forces and embarked on this self-financed venture as partners. UVA Instruments officialy went into business on June 15, 2004.
Alejandro Lagos
Alex is the technical mastermind, inventor and the master builder of the shop. He never stops inquiring and questioning how things work, how they are built and how to make them better. He constantly fulfills his knowlege of different lutherie techniques and explores new methods of building. He enjoys working with rare exotic woods in attemt to showcase the natural beauty of the wood in the instruments. Aside from that, Alex is a guitar player and an artist. He excelled at flamenco, classical and electric guitar techniques. All the sound samples on the web-site are performed by him.
Anastasia Zarubina
Anastasia happens to be somewhat of a muse of the shop. Unspoiled by the common idea of what an electric guitar should look like, she was the one to come up with a lot of those crazy guitar designs and to inspire Alex to change his direction. Anastasia is also in charge of the web-site, PR and inlay work. Aside from the shop, she is also a musician and an artist. She plays keyboards and sings.
